How about a mission 0 class. micro lander, impact mission, or orbiter ? Just a thought on what is a closer goal. GES 6/4/09

NavigaiterThe Mission5 plan either has a mistake or is humor. It says five guys will build a station in a day and one guy might stay overnight if it feels right. Geek humor?.

Surely the mission will be on site for two to four weeks? I think that with enough planning and prefabrication and practice, a hab can be operational in that period. There's not much choice. A moon trip is so enormously expensive that you'll need big results, huge results, every single trip.
Thinking it over, I think the roughest thing to the establishment of an outpost is covering the hab module with at least three meters of regolith. Need a forklift/backhoe to do that. First, piling boulders against the hab will hasten the fill process but must be done carefully.
Boy, a backhoe is so heavy it would need its own trip to haul it there. Another trip for the hab and one for the crew and suplies. whew, that's cash. But it has to be done somehow. Allen M
